Barca experienced a double loss following the game with Club Brugge. Besides conceding a draw to their rivals, the Catalonia side had to cope with the unfortunate news of central defender Eric Garcia suffering a major injury.
The 3-3 draw between Barcelona and Club Brugge in the 4th round of the 2025/26 Champions League group stage ended with mixed emotions. Alongside Lamine Yamal's brilliant performance, the Catalan team also faced distressing news when central defender Eric Garcia suffered a horrific nose injury.
In the final minutes of the second half, during an aerial challenge, Eric Garcia collided head-on with Club Brugge's Romeo Vemant. The head clash seemed not too intense at first, but immediately after, the Spanish defender fell to the ground, clutching his face in pain.
His teammates quickly signaled for medical staff to come on. Garcia was unable to continue and had to leave the pitch during added time. Slow-motion footage showed his nose appeared misaligned, raising concerns about a possible fracture.
Right after the match ended, Eric Garcia was taken to a local hospital in Belgium for scans and to assess the extent of the injury. In a brief post-match interview, the 24-year-old player said: “I think my nose is broken, but I still have to wait for the test results. Hopefully, it’s just a minor injury.”
Initial reports from Spanish media indicate that Barcelona is closely monitoring Garcia’s condition and will issue an official statement once detailed test results are available.
If Garcia has to miss games, it would be a significant blow for coach Hansi Flick, especially as Barcelona’s defense is under pressure in both the Champions League and La Liga. Previously, defender Christensen has just returned from injury, while Jules Kounde is yet to reach his top form after recovering.
The 3-3 draw against Club Brugge allows Barcelona to temporarily maintain their position in the qualification group, but the ongoing injuries are causing headaches for coach Flick ahead of a challenging period.
