Barcelona has completed the payment of the €10.6 million owed in the Robert Lewandowski deal.
After months of waiting, Bayern Munich officially confirmed that Barcelona has settled all outstanding payments tied to Robert Lewandowski’s transfer. This was announced by Bayern’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, during the club’s recent annual meeting.
When asked by the media about the status of the remaining transfer fee, Mr. Dreesen gave a brief but decisive response: “I’ll be clear because the answer is straightforward: they have paid it all off.”
In July 2022, Barcelona reached a €45 million agreement with Bayern Munich to sign Robert Lewandowski, who had already earned numerous titles and Bundesliga top scorer honors.
However, due to financial instability, the Catalan club opted for phased payments. According to last season’s financial report, Barcelona still owed Bayern €10.6 million.
Now, with the full payment completed, Camp Nou can breathe a little easier amid ongoing efforts to recover from past financial missteps.
Under President Joan Laporta, Barcelona utilized several financial strategies, including selling broadcasting rights and commercial assets, to fund player acquisitions in summer 2022. Thanks to this, they secured major signings like Lewandowski and Raphinha, helping the club regain competitiveness in La Liga.
Nevertheless, Barcelona’s financial situation is not yet fully stable. According to SPORT, the club still has outstanding payments to Leeds United (for Raphinha) and RB Leipzig (for Dani Olmo). However, settling the debt with Bayern is seen as a crucial step demonstrating the club’s commitment to maintaining credibility with European partners.
Currently, Lewandowski is entering the final year of his contract with Barcelona. Although his future beyond 2025 remains uncertain, there is no denying the significant impact the 37-year-old star has had during the club’s most challenging period.
