The Champions League record formerly held by the iconic David Beckham has now been claimed by the Club Brugge star following a brilliant display featuring remarkable goals against Barcelona.
Carlos Forbs, a key player for Club Brugge, just delivered the most brilliant performance of his young career, causing Barcelona to be completely stuck in the Champions League during the fourth matchday of the group stage.
This performance even outshone Lamine Yamal, who also scored a beautiful goal. However, at Jan Breydelstadion, Forbs was the brightest star with a goal and an assist, helping his team secure a point against a strong title contender.
According to statistics from Opta, for over 25 years, David Beckham, the Manchester United legend, held the record as the youngest player to score and assist against Barcelona in the Champions League. With his stellar performance, Forbs (21 years and 231 days old) broke this record, doing so nearly two years earlier than Beckham (who was 23 years and 137 days old).
On Barcelona’s side, the club had high hopes this season after reaching the Champions League semifinals last year and winning La Liga and Copa del Rey. But currently, the Catalan team is struggling behind their archrival Real Madrid in the domestic league and suffering some defeats in the Champions League.
After losing to PSG, a win against Brugge was their top priority, but the draw caused them to drop to 11th place in the standings, just outside the automatic qualification spots for the round of 16. If things don’t improve, they will have to fight for a playoff spot.
Under Hansi Flick, Barca will aim to return to winning ways when they face Chelsea, the Club World Cup champions, at Stamford Bridge on November 26 (Vietnam time). Before that, they will play away at Celta Vigo in La Liga this weekend and host Athletic Club on November 23.
