Striker Erling Haaland has just set a new milestone in Champions League history, becoming the first player to score in 5 consecutive matches in this competition for 3 different clubs.
At 25 years old, Haaland continues to demonstrate a devastating form for Manchester City and the Norway national team in the early phase of the 2025/26 season. In the early hours of November 6 (Vietnam time), the Norwegian striker took only 29 minutes to score against his former club Borussia Dortmund, playing a key role in Manchester City's comfortable 4-1 victory at Etihad. The goal bore Haaland’s signature style: a quick run to meet a sharp cross followed by a powerful one-touch finish, just 7 minutes after Phil Foden opened the scoring.
Foden then extended the lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute, before Waldemar Anton scored a consolation goal for Dortmund in the 72nd minute. In stoppage time, Rayan Cherki sealed the 4-1 scoreline for Man City. With this goal, Haaland has now 18 goals across all competitions this season, an astonishing scoring rate.

In 14 appearances this season, Haaland has only failed to score twice, against Tottenham and Aston Villa. Simultaneously, he is carrying the Norway national team with 9 goals in their last 3 matches, bringing them closer to their first World Cup qualification since 1998. Notably, his goal against Dortmund established a record that Cristiano Ronaldo, the legend of Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, has never achieved: scoring in 5 consecutive Champions League matches for 3 different clubs.
Haaland’s scoring streak began in the previous season’s match against Real Madrid, when Man City lost 2-3 in the first leg of the round of 16. In the 2025/26 season, he continued to score against Napoli, Monaco, Villarreal, and most recently Dortmund.

This is not the first time Haaland has created an impressive scoring streak. While playing for Red Bull Salzburg, he scored 8 goals in 5 consecutive Champions League matches (September–November 2019) before transferring to Dortmund in January 2020. At Dortmund, the striker born in 2000 maintained his exceptional form by scoring 10 goals in 6 consecutive matches during the 2020/21 season.
If he scores in the next match against Bayer Leverkusen, Haaland will equal his personal record set at Dortmund. So far, he has scored 2 goals in 3 encounters with Dortmund, including Man City’s 2-1 win in September 2022.
The victory over Dortmund helps Man City maintain their high performance and gives them a chance to move to the top position in the expanded group stage (36 teams) of the Champions League If they keep their winning streak, they will join Arsenal, Bayern, Inter, and Tottenham as the teams unbeaten after 4 rounds.
