Following the 3-3 stalemate between Barcelona and Club Brugge in the Champions League, the promising youngster Lamine Yamal gave significant remarks regarding his form, injury, and how he responded to the crowd's jeers.
The thrilling draw in Belgium added to Barcelona's struggles in their quest to regain their status in European competition. Although Hansi Flick and his players created many chances, the Catalan side’s defense showed too many gaps, forcing them to chase the score three times just to earn a point.
In his post-match comments, Lamine Yamal insisted that the boos from the spectators did not affect him. Instead, Yamal viewed it as a positive sign that he was causing problems for the opposition. He told Movistar: “I don’t think the crowd boos by chance. If they do, it means they recognize I am doing my job well on the pitch. I don’t mind it at all.”
The Spanish player also denied rumors suggesting he was experiencing a psychological crisis due to a pubalgia injury. The Barca youngster stated: “I always stay happy, focus on recovery, and enjoy playing football. People talk a lot about my injury, saying I’m sad or down, but that’s not true at all.”
Regarding the match result, Yamal admitted the team needs to improve significantly in defense. He added: “I left the pitch with mixed feelings, both sweet and bitter. We wanted to take all three points because, as Barca, we always aim to win. But this stadium is tough to play in, and it’s hard to win when you concede three goals. The whole team has to get better.”
Nevertheless, the 2007-born talent left a personal impression by scoring the equalizer at 2-2 following a beautiful combination with Fermín López. Yamal shared: “I tried to do my best. It was a very quick play, Fermín backheeled the ball to me, and I finished. Still, I regret that the team couldn't secure the win.”
When asked about comparisons with the legend Lionel Messi, Yamal remained humble: “I can't compare myself to Messi. He has scored thousands of goals like that. I can only follow my own path.”
The draw against Brugge once again exposed Barcelona’s defensive weaknesses, as they frequently left gaps and lost focus at crucial moments. Coach Hansi Flick also admitted the team needs to fix these issues quickly if they want to advance far in this season’s Champions League.
After leaving Belgium, Barcelona will return to La Liga with an away game against Celta Vigo this weekend. With Lamine Yamal’s impressive form, fans hope he will continue to shine and help the Catalan club regain confidence and consistency after a run of unstable results.
