Lewandowski is closing in on Messi’s legendary Champions League record

Robert Lewandowski is about to achieve a legendary landmark in the Champions League history of the great Lionel Messi.

According to statistics, if he scores in the upcoming match against Club Brugge early tomorrow, the 37-year-old striker will increase the total number of teams he has scored against in Europe’s most prestigious competition to 39, leaving him just one team short of Lionel Messi’s record.

Lewandowski faced Club Brugge twice while playing for Lech Poznań in August 2009, at the start of his European journey. Although he did not score then, over 15 years later, Lewandowski has become one of the greatest goal scorers in Champions League history, with more than 90 goals. He has troubled renowned defenses such as Real Madrid, Dortmund, Arsenal, and PSG, and now only one more opponent stands between him and Messi’s record.

Lionel Messi currently holds the record for scoring against the most different teams in the Champions League, with 40 clubs, a milestone once thought unbreakable. However, with Lewandowski’s consistent form since joining Barcelona, equaling or even surpassing this number is entirely within reach.

At 37, Lewandowski continues to maintain an impressive scoring form. Under coach Hansi Flick, he is not only the spearhead of the attack but also the emotional leader of the Catalan team. His experience, intelligent positioning, and clinical finishing make him a constant threat to all defenses.

Notably, the Champions League remains Lewandowski’s familiar stage to shine. From his time at Dortmund, then Bayern Munich, to now Barcelona, he has proven himself as the “king of the group stage” with remarkable consistency.

If Lewandowski scores against Club Brugge, he will come close to Messi’s record of scoring against 40 different teams. Given his determination and professional spirit, the Polish striker certainly will not stop there.

With the Champions League still ongoing, Lewandowski’s chance to surpass Messi and carve his name into European football history is clearer than ever. For a player who always gives his all on every front, fans can look forward to another legendary night featuring Robert Lewandowski.
