Malaysian football experts affirm that FAM officials should face consequences following FIFA's sanctions.
According to expert Mohd Sadek Mustaffa, it is time for those responsible for tarnishing the national football image to step forward, accept responsibility, and resign honorably after the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) appeal to FIFA was unsuccessful.
National sports analyst Mohd Sadek Mustaffa stated that those assigned to manage national football, whether at FAM or the national team, must take full responsibility for FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee suspending and fining seven players who were illegally naturalized.
He noted that FAM’s decision not to appeal indicates FIFA has strong evidence, making the chances of winning even at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) very slim.
"What actions should be taken against those who have tarnished national football? Should they continue to be involved with the national football scene? They must be held accountable and allow others to manage football and the national team. This is not a minor issue, and we know it will significantly impact Malaysian football,"
"When incidents like this happen, parties start blaming each other instead of admitting their mistakes. How could an issue with paperwork be such a mistake? Ultimately, the country suffers great humiliation. Malaysian football needs to move forward with leadership that is honest, visionary, and pragmatic," he added.
Previously, FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman was the only person suspended and blamed for forging documents for seven illegally naturalized players, which led to FIFA’s fines and bans.
Earlier, the Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, disagreed with Noor Azman’s suspension and emphasized that all parties involved, including the CEO of the National Team, Rob Friend, should also be held responsible for this matter.
