Coach Hansi Flick is said to have indicated his intention to leave Barcelona once the 2025/26 season ends.
According to the ABC, Hansi Flick is considering parting ways with Barcelona after the 2025/26 campaign finishes. Sources reveal that the German tactician has confided in his coaching staff about his wish to leave, citing frustration with some players' attitudes, especially Lamine Yamal, and feeling a lack of support from the club’s management.
Flick has not yet directly discussed this intention with sporting director Deco or president Joan Laporta, but he has shared with his assistants that he feels “very exhausted.”
The report states that the former Bayern Munich coach noticed many players no longer maintain a serious competitive spirit, and he is particularly annoyed by Lamine Yamal’s behavior. Specifically, Flick is displeased that the 2007-born rising star flew to Milan immediately after the El Clasico defeat, and also that he requested staff to bring food to his table despite the team eating buffet-style.
Another factor contributing to Hansi Flick’s fatigue is Barcelona’s chaotic financial situation. The Catalan club is engulfed in a severe economic crisis, with the latest financial report showing a record deficit of 231 million Euros, the highest in the club’s history.
Currently, the 60-year-old coach still has two years left on his contract with Camp Nou. However, given the pressures mentioned, it is very likely he will leave his position at Barcelona after only two years in charge.
Hansi Flick was appointed as Barcelona’s head coach in May 2024, succeeding his predecessor Xavi Hernandez.
With his experience managing Bayern Munich and the German national team, the 1965-born strategist quickly made a name for himself in Spain. In his first season, Flick helped Blaugrana reclaim dominance from their archrivals Real Madrid by securing three domestic titles (La Liga, Spanish Super Cup, and Copa del Rey).
Additionally, he impressed in the UEFA Champions League by guiding the Catalan team to the semi-finals, where they were narrowly eliminated by an outstanding Inter side.
The achievements Flick earned rewarded him with a contract extension of two more years, valid until June 2027. Nevertheless, given the current circumstances, it is entirely possible that the German coach will part ways with Barcelona as soon as the season ends.
