Revealing Hakimi's 'horrifying' injury and the likelihood of missing the World Cup

PSG not only lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League but also suffered the blow of losing Achraf Hakimi due to a severe ankle injury caused by a brutal tackle from Luis Diaz, which left him in tears as he left the pitch.

In the early hours of November 5 (Vietnam time), PSG suffered their first defeat this season in the Champions League with a 1-2 loss to Bayern Munich, but what worried fans more than the result was the terrifying injury to defender Achraf Hakimi.

In the final moments of the first half, during a fast break down the right wing, Hakimi was tackled by Bayern’s Luis Diaz, who slid directly into his leg. The challenge caused the Moroccan star’s ankle to bend unnaturally, creating a scene that made many spectators shudder. Immediately, Hakimi collapsed in pain, broke into tears, and had to be stretchered off amid supportive applause from the crowd.

Initially, referee Maurizio Mariani only showed Diaz a yellow card. However, after VAR intervention and reviewing slow-motion footage, the decision was upgraded to a direct red card for the Colombian forward. Close-up replays revealed the severity of the collision, causing many PSG players to avoid looking back at the incident.

According to initial reports, Hakimi’s injury was considered very serious, potentially sidelining him for the rest of the season and even causing him to miss the 2026 World Cup with the Moroccan national team. This concern quickly spread among fans since Hakimi is an irreplaceable pillar in the defense line for both PSG and the national squad.

However, according to the latest revelation from expert Laure Boulleau on the Canal Champions Club, Hakimi only suffered a sprained ankle, rather than the feared ligament rupture: “From my experience, this is a serious injury but not a critical one. I believe he will need around 6–8 weeks to recover and should regain fitness before the World Cup,” Boulleau stated.

Thus, Hakimi is expected to resume training by early 2026, regaining form before the World Cup begins. Nevertheless, PSG still faces a major setback as they simultaneously lost Ousmane Dembélé, who left the field at the 25th minute due to a recurring thigh injury.

On the other hand, Luis Diaz (who scored a brace to give Bayern a 2-0 lead) became the “villain” of the away team with his reckless tackle causing Hakimi’s injury and his own sending off. His outstanding performance was completely overshadowed during a highly controversial evening at Parc des Princes.
