Legendary Arsene Wenger believes only Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have the strength to stop Arsenal on their quest for the Champions League crown this season.
Arsenal continue to display impressive form in the Champions League by securing a 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague, winning all 4 group stage matches. Under Mikel Arteta, the “Gunners” are not only thriving in the Premier League but also showing resilience in Europe, leading many to believe they are genuine contenders for the title.
However, the former legendary coach Arsene Wenger remains cautious. In an interview with beIN Sports, he stated that the two non-English teams capable of threatening Arsenal’s ambitions are Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
Wenger commented: “I believe Bayern and PSG are the two teams outside the Premier League most likely to win the Champions League. Domestically, they are almost unbeatable. PSG will surely claim the Ligue 1 title, and Bayern continues to dominate the Bundesliga as usual. Therefore, their entire focus will be on the Champions League.”
According to the “Professor,” while English teams must divide their efforts across a long domestic season, Bayern and PSG can fully concentrate on the European competition. Wenger added: “They will face five strong teams from the Premier League, making it a very exciting battle. Currently, PSG is not at their best form, Real Madrid and Liverpool are regaining strength, but Bayern is in peak condition.”
Sharing Wenger’s view, former striker Troy Deeney also named Arsenal and Bayern as the leading candidates for this year’s trophy. Deeney told CBS Sports. “If I had to pick the top three contenders, I’d say PSG, Bayern, and Arsenal. After their win over PSG, Bayern have shown terrifying strength. But Arsenal is no less impressive; they lead the Premier League and have kept eight consecutive clean sheets. Clearly, these two are the strongest contenders.”
With their current excellent form, Arsenal is making all of Europe take notice, but as Wenger emphasized, the path to the top remains tough, especially with the two “giants” Bayern and PSG standing in their way.
