CONFIRMED: Coach Amorim is related to Man Utd's worst-performing player

Coach Ruben Amorim has been verified to have a family connection with a frequently underperforming Man Utd player.

According to the genealogy website Portugal Geneall, Coach Ruben Amorim and Diogo Dalot share the same ancestor, both being great-grandchildren of Carlos Dallot, a renowned 19th-century circus artist. Journalist Samuel Luckhurst, who has close ties with Manchester United’s inner circle, also confirmed this distant family link. Under Amorim’s management, Dalot appeared in 39 out of 54 matches coached by the Portuguese manager.

Carlos Dallot was born in France and toured Europe with his siblings Jose and Julia before settling in Portugal to continue their performance career. Dalot himself has mentioned that his surname originates from France. His family later lived long-term in Braga, which is also the hometown of the star born in 1999.

The Portuguese player joined Porto’s academy at age nine and transferred to Manchester United in 2018 for a fee of £19 million.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim was born in Lisbon and spent most of his playing career at capital clubs such as Belenenses and Benfica. In 2012, he was loaned to Braga and even faced Manchester United in the Champions League.

During Manchester United’s recent four-match unbeaten run, Dalot, one of the most disappointing players this season, was positioned by Amorim on the left flank instead of his usual right-back spot. However, in the match against Nottingham Forest last weekend, he was the first player substituted while the team was trailing 2-1, before Amad scored a late goal to equalize 2-2.

Coach Amorim admitted Dalot struggled at City Ground: “If you watch closely, many times Dalot had space to cross with the ball, but being right-footed, he often cut inside, losing the space. The only solution was Dorgu, who can stay wide and deliver crosses because the space is always open there. If he cuts inside, Cunha is ready to receive the ball.”

So far, Dalot has made 219 appearances for Manchester United over eight years, scoring nine goals. This season, the former Porto player has only featured in nine games due to a muscle injury that sidelined him for about three weeks.

The draw with Forest came after a Manchester United fan declared he would not cut his hair until the team secured five consecutive wins. Dalot was once asked about this story and responded on DAZN after the 2-1 victory over Liverpool: “We’ll see... Hopefully we can help him get a haircut soon. But we must focus on each game. This league is tough, and there are always challenging opponents.”

Afterwards, Manchester United continued with a 4-2 win over Brighton to extend their winning streak to three matches, but it was halted by the draw against Forest.
