Cristiano Jr, Ronaldo's son, was part of the Portugal U16 squad that claimed the championship at the Federation Cup friendly competition.
After a brilliant performance against Wales, Cristiano Jr, Ronaldo's son, was unexpectedly left out of the starting lineup for Portugal U16 in their match against England during the Federation Cup friendly tournament.
The young talent born in 2010 came off the bench and played the final 15 minutes, leaving a noticeable impact. Ultimately, Portugal U16 won 2-1 thanks to a brace from Rafael Cabral, officially clinching the tournament title.
At the award ceremony, since Ronaldo was busy training and playing with Al Nassr in the Middle East, he could not be present in Turkey to witness his son lift the trophy. However, his fiancée Georgina Rodriguez attended in his place, showing full support and care for Cristiano Jr.
This marks Cristiano Jr’s second title with Portugal’s youth national teams. Earlier in May this year, Ronaldo’s eldest son and the U15 team won the Vlatko Markovic tournament in Croatia, where he shined with a brace in the 3-2 victory over the host nation in the final match.
Cristiano Jr is following the path his father once took. He currently plays for Al Nassr’s youth academy, having previously been part of Juventus and Manchester United’s youth squads. Cristiano Jr also wears the legendary number 7 jersey, the same number his father wore throughout his career, and plays in the same position.
In an interview with Canal 11, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about the possibility of playing on the same team as his son. He expressed that it is something he wishes for, but the final decision lies with Cristiano Jr.
“I really want that. It’s not something that keeps me awake at night, but I truly hope to one day play alongside my son. Let’s wait and see, it depends more on him than on me,” Ronaldo said. “Time keeps moving forward, and surely one day Cris will have to leave the pitch… There will come a time when it’s no longer possible, not only because of physical reasons but also mentally.”
Ronaldo concluded that the most important thing for him is his son’s happiness: “I don’t see it as an obsession. He will follow his own path. I will always be a proud father, no matter what he chooses. If he plays football, that’s wonderful. If not, we tried our best, at least this father did everything he could. But whatever happens, it’s not a problem.”
