Former Manchester United and England star knighted with prestigious title

English football legend David Beckham was formally knighted by King Charles III at a grand ceremony held at Windsor Castle on November 4, 2025, celebrating his outstanding contributions to sports and charity.

The knighthood is the highest civilian honor in England, granted by the royal family to individuals who have served the country. Recipients add the prefix Sir (for men) or Dame (for women) to their names.

At 50, Beckham, a global icon of football and fashion, became "Sir David Beckham," marking a new milestone in his celebrated career. He attended the ceremony with his wife, Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girls singer and famous fashion designer, impressing in a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit crafted by Victoria’s own label.

Victoria, aged 51, wore an asymmetrical long navy dress to accompany her husband during this historic occasion. Beckham’s parents, Ted Beckham and Sandra West, were also present at Windsor to witness their son receive this prestigious title.

After the ceremony, Beckham emotionally revealed he "could not hold back tears" upon learning of his knighthood. "I cried when I heard the news, and probably for many weeks after," he told Sky News. "This is a very special moment for me and my family. I wasn’t nervous, just filled with emotion."

He humorously said that at home, his wife and children might still call him "Sir Dad" or "Sir Son" if they like, but he personally needs time to get accustomed to the new title.

Beckham also disclosed that during a brief chat with the King, they talked about fashion — a shared passion. "He is one of the most stylish men I have ever met and has truly inspired many of my looks. Today’s formal suit was inspired by his youthful style," Beckham said, confirming the suit was a special gift designed by Victoria.

For Victoria, the moment her husband was knighted carried deep significance. She posted a message on social media: "You have always been the knight in shining armor for me, and now it’s official. Sir David Beckham!! I am incredibly proud of you."
