Saka opened the scoring from a penalty after VAR confirmed a handball by the opponent. In the second half, Merino scored twice from crosses by Trossard and Rice. Slavia Prague was awarded a penalty late in the game but VAR overturned it. Arsenal dominated and controlled the match convincingly.
Real Madrid arrived at Anfield in strong form but were outplayed and lost 1-0 to Liverpool thanks to a close-range header by Alexis Mac Allister in the 61st minute. Thibaut Courtois made 8 excellent saves to prevent a heavier defeat.
The match also featured controversy when the referee denied Liverpool a penalty after the ball struck Tchouaméni’s hand. Despite bringing on Alexander-Arnold late, Real couldn’t change the outcome. This first Champions League loss of the season allowed Liverpool to catch up on points and continued Real’s poor record against English teams.
Bayern Munich defeated PSG 2-1 in Paris despite playing with a man down from late in the first half. Luis Diaz scored twice to give Bayern a 2-0 lead, while Joao Neves pulled one back in the second half. PSG pressed hard after the red card but repeatedly ran into Bayern’s disciplined defense and Manuel Neuer’s reliability. Bayern dropped deep, defended tightly, and secured the victory, reaffirming their strength and status as a European powerhouse.
