Kevin De Bruyne delivers a hopeful message after a successful thigh operation, confirming “the road to recovery has started,” amid Napoli’s concern about missing their vital midfielder.

The Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne confirmed that his thigh injury surgery “went perfectly,” but admitted he will be sidelined for an extended period. The 34-year-old Napoli midfielder was injured during the match against Inter Milan late last month, scoring a penalty before leaving the field due to pain in his hamstring area.

De Bruyne underwent surgery immediately after the game and is now in the recovery phase. On social media, he shared: “I will be out for some time, but the good news is the operation was successful. My comeback journey has started. Thank you all for the messages and support.”

After leaving Manchester City last summer, De Bruyne joined Napoli on a free transfer and quickly made an impact under coach Antonio Conte. In just over a month playing in Serie A, he has scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists, significantly contributing to the reigning champions taking the lead in the standings.

In his final two seasons at Man City, De Bruyne frequently suffered from hamstring and thigh injuries, missing dozens of matches for both club and country. Many sources suggest that his extensive injury history was a key reason Man City chose not to renew his contract, paving the way for his departure after nearly a decade at Etihad.

In response to Italian media rumors claiming that De Bruyne’s and Romelu Lukaku’s simultaneous injuries have helped Napoli “play more cohesively,” coach Antonio Conte expressed strong displeasure. The Italian manager sharply retorted: “Saying we are stronger without our key players is absurd. At the start of the season, everyone praised the team’s quality signings, and now they claim losing them is an advantage. We are overcoming difficulties not by luck but through collective spirit.”

Napoli still holds the top spot in Serie A by a narrow margin over Inter Milan, but their Champions League form remains unimpressive. After three matches, they have only one win and face the risk of early elimination. The Southern Italian club aims to secure all three points when hosting Eintracht Frankfurt midweek, before traveling to Bologna at the weekend.
