Cong Phuong is preparing to go to Singapore

Cong Phuong is heading to Singapore to have his injury reassessed following his continuous absence from the beginning of the competition.

This marks the seventh consecutive match that Cong Phuong has missed due to injury (6 in the First Division and 1 in the National Cup). Born in 1995, the striker is not only the main attacking threat but also the soul of Dong Nai’s offensive play. However, since the start of this season, his contributions have been zero.

Before the match against Thanh Nien Ho Chi Minh City in the 6th round of the First Division, fans eagerly anticipated the return of Cong Phuong to the Truong Tuoi Dong Nai lineup. A few days earlier, images of Cong Phuong training were shared on the club’s official fanpage with the caption, “Is anyone waiting for the comeback of captain Nguyen Cong Phuong?”

However, ultimately Cong Phuong was not included in the registered player list. Despite Truong Tuoi Dong Nai’s impressive 4-2 victory to keep close to Khacoto Khanh Hoa at the top of the table, Dong Nai supporters still deeply miss Cong Phuong.

It is known that Cong Phuong aims to return to play in round 8 of the First Division, which will take place after the November FIFA Days and the SEA Games, on the last day of January 2026. This upcoming period will be crucial as it allows Cong Phuong more time to recover.

The Truong Tuoi Dong Nai club is also facilitating Cong Phuong’s trip to Singapore for a follow-up injury check. The "Blue Storm" team urgently needs Cong Phuong’s return to strengthen their attack, aiming for the championship and promotion to the V-League.

After a year back playing in Vietnam, fans are eager to see Cong Phuong on the field wearing his familiar number 10 jersey. Previously, in the 2024/2025 season, the former HAGL star wore number 70 when he first played for Truong Tuoi Dong Nai. This number was quite successful, as Cong Phuong scored 7 goals in the First Division.
