Mikel Arteta praised Arsenal's first half in their 2-0 victory over Burnley as "one of the best performances."
Coach Mikel Arteta described Arsenal's first-half display in the 2-0 win against Burnley as "one of the best halves" his team has shown this season. With the three points secured, the Gunners further strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League and extended their winning streak to nine matches in all competitions.
Arteta couldn't hide his satisfaction after the match: "We started the game excellently. The first-half performance could be considered our best since the season began, scoring two goals, creating several clear chances, and not allowing the opponent a single shot on target.”
However, the Spanish manager also openly pointed out the drawback when Arsenal lost rhythm in the second half. “After the break, we lost our tempo, especially in ball control and attacking build-up. But defensively, the entire team stayed focused and covered each other very well,” he added.
The standout player of the match, Viktor Gyokeres, received special commendation from Arteta. The Swedish striker not only scored the opening goal but also continuously pressured Burnley's defense. “This was one of his best games for Arsenal,” Arteta affirmed. “From pressing ability, positioning, linking with teammates to off-the-ball movements, everything was excellent. Unfortunately, he suffered a minor muscle strain and had to leave the field early.”
On the other hand, Burnley remains deep in trouble. Scott Parker's team is only five points above the relegation zone after their fifth Premier League loss this season.
Parker also admitted that Arsenal is a "nightmare" team on set pieces. “Rice delivers incredibly accurate crosses, and players like Gabriel and Gyokeres always time their runs perfectly. It's very difficult to defend against them,” the Burnley coach acknowledged.
With this win, Arsenal continues to assert their status as top contenders for the title, heading into their upcoming Champions League matches with high spirits.
