Former Aston Villa and Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes Arsenal are the frontrunners for the 2025/26 Premier League championship.
Speaking on Premier League Productions ahead of Arsenal’s away match at Burnley, Sherwood expressed his admiration for Mikel Arteta’s team’s current form. He stated that the London club appears to have “both hands firmly on the trophy.”
Sherwood’s viewpoint is as follows: "I really love how they play. It’s hard to admit this as a former Arsenal player, but they are perfect in every aspect. To me, Arsenal seem to have their hands firmly on the trophy, and now it’s only up to them to lose it. Of course, it’s not over yet, as Liverpool remain a formidable force and Manchester City are always contenders. But in my opinion, this is a title Arsenal currently control."
If they defeat Burnley, Arsenal could extend their lead to 7 points over their closest rivals. Currently, Arsenal are aiming for their fifth consecutive Premier League win, demonstrating impressive stability under Arteta. Statistics show the Gunners have lost only once in their last 18 encounters with Burnley and have never been beaten at Turf Moor since 1973.
Unlike Sherwood, former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson emphasizes that the club should focus on accumulating points against lower-ranked teams: "In my view, the title race could be decided within the next two weeks." Merson personally predicts Arsenal will win against Burnley and Sunderland, while Liverpool and Man City may struggle to take all six points. “If Man City and Liverpool draw in matchday 11, Arsenal could move closer to the Premier League title than ever before. At that point, Arsenal only need to maintain their consistency and keep progressing. I don’t see any reason that can stop Arsenal except themselves.”
Additionally, Paul Merson praises Arsenal’s maturity this season, highlighting their composure, game control, and steady performance. This is what sets the North London club apart from previous seasons.
