MU receives unexpected sad news from the club’s number one star

Manchester United’s pair, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, are set to leave for international duty, competing in the AFCON opening matches on Christmas night.

The pair Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo will almost certainly be absent from Manchester United’s squad at the end of this year, as both are expected to be called up to represent Cameroon and Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This attacking duo has been in sync during Manchester United’s recent revival under coach Ruben Amorim, but now the club must prepare to face the loss of both players for the tournament featuring Africa’s top stars.

Notably, AFCON 2025 will start earlier than usual, with host Morocco playing the opening match against Comoros on December 22. Typically, the tournament is held in early January, except for 2019 when it took place in summer.

According to the schedule, Mbeumo’s Cameroon will kick off on December 24 against Gabon, while Diallo’s Ivory Coast also plays on the same day facing Mozambique. This means both stars will have to set aside any Christmas plans.

No matches are scheduled on December 25, but AFCON resumes immediately on Boxing Day (December 26). However, Diallo and Mbeumo will only return to action when their teams meet in the second round on December 28. Both Cameroon and Ivory Coast are highly rated in Group F, with Ivory Coast determined to defend their title after winning AFCON 2023 by defeating Nigeria 2-1 in the final thanks to goals from Sebastian Haller and Franck Kessié.

Currently, Diallo is off to a positive start at Man United, providing an assist in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool. He has started 7 matches in the Premier League, forming a strong connection with Mbeumo, the £70 million signing who has scored 4 goals this season and stands out as the leading attacking star for the Red Devils.

After Mbeumo scored a brace in the 4-2 win over Brighton last weekend, he and Diallo performed their signature celebratory dance in front of the Stretford End stands. The pair have been close since before the season began, having done the same celebration in a friendly win against Everton.

Both are key pillars in coach Amorim’s system, contributing significantly to the Red Devils’ three consecutive wins — starting with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, followed by a historic win at Liverpool, and capped by the 4-2 triumph against Brighton, where Mbeumo scored the decisive goal, confirming the impressive form of the duo dominating Old Trafford.
