The recent El Clasico concluded with many disputes, notably Vinicius Junior’s pointed sarcasm aimed at Barca’s rising star Lamine Yamal.
Real Madrid hosted Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu and quickly dominated the game. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for the home side in the 12th minute after a slick combination with Jude Bellingham. However, Barca responded promptly when Fermin Lopez equalized in the 38th minute. Yet, the visitors’ joy was short-lived as Bellingham soon shone again with a precise finish, sealing a 2-1 victory for “Los Blancos.”
In the second half, Mbappe missed a chance to extend the lead by failing to convert a penalty against goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Nevertheless, Real Madrid held on to secure all three points, increasing their lead over Barca to five points in the La Liga standings.
Lamine Yamal, the highly anticipated Barca star expected to make an impact, endured a forgettable match. Despite taking two shots and creating two dangerous chances, the 18-year-old was completely powerless against Real Madrid’s tight defense.
According to Spanish media reports, during the match, Vinicius Junior directly took a swipe at Yamal because of the latter’s pre-game comments. On Twitch, Yamal had said about Real Madrid: “Yes, of course, they always complain and pretend to fall.”
Seizing the opportunity to retort, Vinicius sarcastically remarked: “Just passing backwards all the time? Why don’t you dare to dribble anymore?” This comment left the young Barca player speechless on the Bernabeu pitch.
After the match, tensions escalated as players from both sides exchanged heated words. Pedri was sent off for a late foul on Tchouameni, while Vinicius continued to clash fiercely with Alejandro Balde, Raphinha, and Yamal himself.
Defender Dani Carvajal was also caught shouting at Yamal in the middle of the pitch and issued a challenge: “You talk too much, now keep talking and see what happens.” Yamal appeared angry but was pulled away by teammates just in time. Meanwhile, Courtois, Rodrygo, and Militao all received cards for their involvement in the scuffle, and substitute goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was sent off for excessive dissent.
Despite the turmoil, Real Madrid reaffirmed their top position with consistent form. The El Clasico win allowed the “White Falcons” to create a safe gap ahead of Barcelona and prepare for hosting Valencia, who have failed to win in their last five matches, at Bernabeu next weekend.
