Kylian Mbappe equaled the records of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho by netting a goal for Real Madrid in the El Clasico versus Barcelona.
Kylian Mbappe continues his brilliant form in the 2025/26 season with an explosive performance in Real Madrid’s victory over their fierce rivals Barcelona.
With his goal against the Catalan team, the French striker became the third player in the 21st century to score in four consecutive El Clasico matches across all competitions, tallying six goals in total, following Ronaldinho Gaucho (four matches, five goals from 2004 to 2006) and Cristiano Ronaldo (six matches, seven goals in 2012).
Notably, in his first El Clasico appearance, Mbappe failed to score as Real Madrid suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat. He faced further challenges in the Spanish Super Cup with a 2-5 loss, though he still contributed to the team. In April, Mbappe scored again in the 2-3 defeat in the Copa del Rey final against Barca.
In May, Mbappe shone during an away match in Catalonia, even though Real Madrid endured a narrow 3-4 loss in a thrilling seven-goal encounter. Barcelona struggled to contain him as Mbappe completed a hat-trick.
So far, the 2018 World Cup winner continues to strengthen his lead in the La Liga top scorer race with 11 goals, increasing his total tally to 16. Given his outstanding performances, Mbappe is undoubtedly an irreplaceable pillar in the Royal team’s attack aiming for major achievements this season, and he could very well claim his first Ballon d’Or in 2026 if he maintains this form.
Returning to the match events, Real Madrid created two early chances, but a penalty was disallowed and Mbappe’s stunning goal was ruled offside. Nevertheless, the French forward broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a precise finish inside the box. The game intensified when Fermin Lopez equalized at 1-1 in the 38th minute, but just five minutes later, Jude Bellingham restored Real Madrid’s lead.
In the second half, the home team was awarded a penalty with a chance to extend their lead, but Mbappe was unable to beat goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The remaining minutes saw an exciting back-and-forth battle, but no further goals were scored, and Real Madrid won 2-1.
With this victory, coach Xabi Alonso’s team maintained their top spot and extended their gap over Barcelona to five points.
