Coach Xabi Alonso confirmed he has not considered the La Liga title yet even after Real Madrid's victory over Barcelona.
In his first El Clasico as head coach, Xabi Alonso experienced joy as Real Madrid secured a convincing win against Barcelona in the 10th round of La Liga.
This result solidifies Los Blancos at the top of the table and extends their lead over Barcelona to five points. Alonso emphasized the significance of this win but declared he is not thinking about the La Liga title at this stage.
The Spanish tactician shared: "This victory is very important, and you all can see that. It’s more than just three points. We know the season is still early, it’s only October, so there is a lot of hard work ahead. But today, we felt the positive vibes we wanted. We need to do more than what we showed in this match."
Additionally, the 43-year-old coach praised his players’ performance despite the team having suffered four consecutive defeats against the Catalan side previously.
He said: "We wanted to field the best-prepared lineup for such an important match. The team executed effective counterattacks and played with great determination...
Today's selection was appropriate, and I saw both the players and fans in the stadium very excited. The connection between the team and supporters is fantastic. What matters is that the fans see their team can compete and win big matches. He enjoyed the entire experience. This project is just beginning, but that connection is key, and today I truly felt it."
Moreover, Alonso mentioned he is not concerned about the pre-match controversies sparked by Lamine Yamal’s comments and stressed that the whole team must stay focused on upcoming matches.
The 2010 World Cup winner added: "We don’t comment on those matters because inside the team, we don’t feel that way. Our goal is to concentrate on each match ahead, preparing for every game as if it’s the most important one.
We don’t differentiate the preparation between El Clasico or the game against Getafe. We understand the significance of the match, but from Tuesday, our thoughts shifted to the next game. We must stay calm and keep moving forward."
From the opening minutes, Real Madrid created two dangerous chances, but a penalty was denied and Mbappe’s superb goal was disallowed for offside. Nevertheless, the French striker broke the deadlock at the 22nd minute with an accurate finish inside the box. The match grew intense when Fermin Lopez equalized at minute 38, but just five minutes later, Jude Bellingham restored Real Madrid’s lead.
In the second half, the home team earned a penalty and had a chance to increase the lead, but Mbappe failed to beat goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The remaining minutes featured lively attacking play from both sides, but no further goals were scored, and Real Madrid closed the match with a 2-1 win.
