Ahead of the Brighton clash, coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that both Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are currently injured.
Manchester United is gearing up for a challenging Premier League match against Brighton, but coach Ruben Amorim faces serious concerns regarding his squad. The Portuguese manager revealed that key players Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are both struggling with fitness issues, leaving their participation uncertain.
Both Maguire and Mount started in the Red Devils' 2–1 victory over Liverpool last week, where the English defender shone by scoring the decisive goal. However, during the pre-match press conference, Amorim admitted that the duo is dealing with minor injuries and will undergo further assessments before finalizing the lineup.
“The squad overall is fine, but we have some doubts. Both Harry Maguire and Mason Mount sustained some knocks during the week. Nothing serious, but we will reassess tomorrow. Licha (Lisandro Martinez) will definitely miss out, while the others are ready,” Amorim stated.
The absence of Maguire would be a significant blow as the defender has been in excellent form since the season started, helping to maintain stability in United’s defense. Meanwhile, Mount is gradually regaining his match fitness after a long injury layoff.
Amorim anticipates a very tough game against Brighton, especially given the opponent’s impressive form and distinct style under young coach Fabian Hurzeler.
“Brighton is a very interesting team to watch. They are good at building play, strong in transitions, and very dangerous on set pieces,” Amorim commented. “We need to be smart and highly focused because this is a well-rounded team in every aspect.”
Brighton has been a “nemesis” for Manchester United in recent seasons. The South Coast club has won all three of their latest visits to Old Trafford under three different managers, even achieving a double victory over the Red Devils last season.
However, Amorim believes the team’s morale is high after two consecutive wins, including a remarkable comeback at Anfield. Still, he emphasized the importance of keeping the players grounded.
“We enjoy the joy of winning, but football changes very fast. At a club like Manchester United, you always have to focus on the next match,” he said.
