Coach Vu Hong Viet leaves Thep Xanh Nam Dinh after the loss to Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 group stage, closing a chapter full of ups and downs at Thien Truong stadium.
Coach Vu Hong Viet brought Thep Xanh Nam Dinh two consecutive V.League championships in the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons.
However, this season, Coach Vu Hong Viet failed to help the Nam Dinh team maintain their strength and instead disappointed fans with inconsistent form.

In the LPBank V-League 2025/26, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh is currently placed 10th out of 14 teams, 3 points above the second-to-last spot. The recent loss to Gamba Osaka resulted in a record of 4 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses for Thep Xanh Nam Dinh.
Statistics show Thep Xanh Nam Dinh averaged 60.1% ball possession per game, took 13.5 shots, but only scored 6 goals across 7 matches.
This is clearly an underwhelming performance compared to the team’s 10 million euro valued squad.
At a recent V-League post-match press conference, Coach Vu Hong Viet confirmed: "In round 11, clubs will be allowed to replace and add players. At that time, we will register Xuan Son, and he might play in that round."
After about 10 months of treatment and recovery from a ligament injury, the Brazilian-born striker returned on October 11 during a friendly match against the PVF-CAND youth team. Although not fully fit, Xuan Son was given 20 minutes at the end of the game by Coach Vu Hong Viet to regain match fitness.
It is known that Xuan Son has now fully recovered. However, having been off the field for a long time, the striker still needs additional training with the fitness coach to regain endurance.
According to information, Coach Vu Hong Viet has requested to resign from his position as head coach of Nam Dinh Club. However, the club’s management wishes for him to lead the team for one more match before they proceed with contract termination.
