The Vietnam U17 women's team played their second friendly match during the training camp in Germany, facing the Werder Bremen B women's team and losing 1-6 on the afternoon of September 17 (local time).
According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Werder Bremen B currently competes in the Regionalliga Nord (Germany’s third division), with an average age above 20. After three matches, the team is placed 7th on the table with one win, one draw, and one loss.
Against a highly experienced and physically stronger opponent, the Vietnam U17 players started the game with great determination. However, in the 27th minute, the home side scored first from a wing attack.
Vietnam U17 were physically disadvantaged compared to Bremen B.
By the 38th minute, the Vietnam U17 women equalized after the opposing goalkeeper’s uncertain handling, with the ball touching Hà Vi before entering the goal.
However, just four minutes later, Werder Bremen B took the lead again with a diagonal shot, ending the first half at 2-1.
In the second half, the home team further demonstrated their superior experience by scoring three additional goals at the 49th, 58th, and 82nd minutes.
Notably, at the 86th minute, Vietnam U17 had a clear chance, but the shot went over the crossbar. The match ended with the Vietnam U17 women losing 1-6.
Vietnam U17 head coach Okiyama Masahiko remarked: "Although they are only the reserve team for Werder Bremen’s first team playing in the Bundesliga, they remain very strong. They have superior physical strength, speed, and experience, and some players are older than our U17 squad. I consider today’s opponent to be truly high quality.
We have two consecutive matches, so there wasn’t much time for extra training. After this game, the whole team needs to improve their ability to compete physically, and better seize ball-winning opportunities to launch quick attacks. Today, we lost possession in many situations, which resulted in some unfortunate goals."
According to the schedule, on the evening of September 18, the Vietnam U17 women will continue with a friendly match against the Werder Bremen U17 women’s team.
