Manchester United's squad included the son of the club legend, yet they were defeated by a lower-league opponent.

Manchester United extended their run of shame as their U21 squad lost 1-2 to Brackley Town, a non-league club, during the National League Cup on Tuesday night.

A strong U21 Manchester United lineup still couldn't prevent an embarrassing defeat.

Against Brackley Town, the U21 Manchester United coach fielded a very strong team, including first-team star Chido Obi and Tyler Fletcher, son of the legendary Darren Fletcher.

However, a shock occurred just 7 minutes in when Danny Waldron scored the opening goal for Brackley. Before the 30th minute, striker Connor Hall doubled the lead with a header from a corner kick.

The young "Red Devils" players tried to press hard for the rest of the match, but Brackley’s goalkeeper Jonny Maxted was outstanding, repeatedly denying U21 MU’s scoring opportunities.

Only in stoppage time did captain Jacob Devaney score a consolation goal for U21 MU, but it was too late to turn the game around. In the end, Brackley Town won 2-1 and took all three points.

U21 Manchester United were defeated by lower-league opponents Brackley.

After two rounds, Brackley currently leads the group with a perfect winning record. Meanwhile, the opening game loss caused U21 MU to drop to 7th place, near the bottom of the standings.

Immediately after the match, MU fans expressed their frustration on social media. One wrote: "Another loss, really disappointing." Another humorously commented: "They should sign their goalkeeper, he’s outstanding." A third sarcastically said: "It must be hereditary..."

The last comment alludes to the poor form of MU’s first team, whose declining performance seems to have affected the youth squads as well. In fact, the U21 team’s form somewhat reflects the overall situation at Old Trafford. MU’s senior team has only one win in their first four Premier League matches and currently sits 14th in the league table.
