Top expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed details about the MU head coach position. Ruben Amorim is under tremendous pressure but has not been fired. Who could replace Amorim at MU, and what is the current status?
Coach Ruben Amorim is facing new pressure following Manchester United’s very challenging start to this Premier League season.
According to British media, Andoni Iraola – Bournemouth’s manager – is among the names linked to replacing Amorim if United’s leadership decides to make a change early in the season.
The pressure on Amorim increased after United’s 0-3 loss to Man City last weekend. This defeat left the "Red Devils" with only 4 points after the first 4 rounds, their worst start in 33 years.
How much longer will Coach Amorim stay at MU?
Moreover, United was eliminated from the English League Cup after a surprising defeat to Grimsby Town last month. Amorim’s inflexible football philosophy has been heavily criticized by experts and fans. However, the Portuguese coach insists he will not change his style, but clearly, if United wants to improve, adjustments are necessary.
It is revealed that Iraola is among four potential candidates for the MU head coach position, along with Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Marco Silva (Fulham), and Gareth Southgate – former England manager. Under Iraola, Bournemouth had their best-ever Premier League start with 3 wins in 4 games and even played well in their opening loss to Liverpool.
This performance has put Iraola on the radar, but famous journalist Fabrizio Romano is cautious. In the latest GIVEMESPORT update, he stressed that everything remains "speculation" and United currently has no plans to fire Amorim.
"There is nothing about a coaching change right now," Romano wrote regarding rumors about Iraola. "Man United has not planned any change at the head coach position; everything is just speculation. If anything changes with Amorim, we will see who they pick."
It is known that Amorim will be given additional time to turn things around. United’s board spent £225 million on him during the recent summer transfer window. Furthermore, the former Sporting coach only officially took over the team in November 2024, and the Ineos group does not want to dismiss him after less than a year.
