On December 17, Beijing time, a number of authoritative British media such as The Post and The Times issued an article confirming that Ukrainian winger Mudryk, who plays for Chelsea, confirmed that he tested positive for banned drugs, and after receiving the FA report, he has been temporarily suspended.
After confirming the positive drug test, Chelsea Football Club officially issued a response stating that the player himself made it clear that he had never intentionally used a banned drug and that the club would now work with the relevant authorities to find out what led to the adverse results. The club declined to make any comments until the results were in.
And Mudryk himself issued a statement saying that he was shocked by the results, that he had done nothing wrong, and that he would cooperate with the investigation to find out how it happened. Mudryk also hopes he can get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
It is reported that Mudryk tested positive for banned drugs when he was tested in August. The drug he tested positive for was meldonium, which has the effect of improving the physical endurance of those who take it. As of January 1, 2016, he has been banned by the World Anti-Sports Contrarian Agency (WADA) for sporting competitions.
Previously, tennis star Maria Sharapova had been banned for two years after testing positive for meldonium, and Mudryk would face a maximum four-year ban if he is ultimately found to be in a drug ban.
In January 2023, Chelsea spent a whopping €70 million transfer fee to sign Mykhailo Mudryk from Arsenal. Unfortunately, Mudryk has never been able to prove his worth since joining the club, and so far wearing the number 10 shirt of the Blues, he has contributed only 10 goals and eight assists in 73 appearances. Mykhailo Mudryk was last named in the Chelsea squad for a Chelsea 3-0 win over Villa on 1 December, with boss Maresca stating at the time that Mudryk was injured.
