In this season's four official matches, Manchester United's two goalkeepers, Altay Bayindir and André Onana, have taken turns making errors! British media revealed that United teammates believe the simplest solution to the goalkeeper issue is to have the 39-year-old third-choice keeper, Tom Heaton, start the games.

The UK’s The Sun reported that some key Manchester United players think Heaton has performed excellently in training and was the most consistent during warm-up matches, so he deserves a chance to replace Onana and Bayindir. This former England international holds a respected position in the locker room and was retained by Ruben Amorim’s contract extension, making him part of the six-man "leadership group."
Since Manchester United parted ways with De Gea in 2023 and signed Onana from Inter Milan for €50 million, while also acquiring Bayindir for €5 million, the goalkeeper position has been a constant concern. The 29-year-old Cameroonian keeper Onana has kept 24 clean sheets but also made nearly a dozen direct mistakes leading to goals, the highest in the league.
This season, Amorim has started the 27-year-old Turkish international Bayindir in the Premier League, but his performances have been poor, including a weak response to a corner against Arsenal that led to a goal and a costly fumble against Burnley.

Sources say Manchester United teammates feel that Heaton, who returned to the club in 2021 but has only played three times at Old Trafford, should now be given an opportunity. "Based on training performance, some teammates think Tom (Heaton) deserves a chance," the source explained. "He’s very experienced and takes good care of himself, making him a key figure in the squad. The other two goalkeepers currently have many issues, so why not give Tom a try?"
Heaton came through Manchester United’s youth system but never appeared for the first team during his initial spell. When he returned in 2021 as the third-choice keeper, he finally made his debut. His role has mostly been as a backup, yet people now consider this observer to be the most stable goalkeeper in the team, which is somewhat ironic.
The Manchester Evening News also reported that United players view the League Cup defeat to Grimsby as a new low for the team, with the confidence of the first and second-choice goalkeepers gradually eroding, causing many players to feel uneasy about the goalkeepers behind the defense.

The Daily Mail added that the dissatisfaction with Onana is not limited to Manchester United; West Ham United rejected the chance to loan him during the summer transfer window because they did not believe the Red Devils’ keeper was better than their current options! British media said that Manchester United had offered to loan Onana to West Ham, but Graham Potter assessed that Onana was not superior to Łukasz Fabiański and Alphonse Areola, even though both keepers have also performed poorly at the start of the season.
Onana and Bayindir both insist on staying at Manchester United to fight for the starting spot. The club has negotiated a €20 million deal to sign Royal Antwerp’s goalkeeper Senna Miangue. The transfer was close to completion, but the intervention of Turkish champions Galatasaray changed the situation by offering a better deal. Although Miangue prefers to join the Red Devils, both Antwerp and the player may now demand improved terms.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated: "Manchester United are still in talks with Antwerp. Antwerp has not accepted United’s offer as of Saturday night. They believe other clubs will join the race, so United’s bid might be insufficient."

Radek Vitek, loaned by Manchester United to Championship side Bristol City this summer, has also performed outstandingly. In the weekend match against Hull City, he made an incredible save by denying a certain header. The 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper’s reaction was described as unbelievable. The live commentator shouted: "That looked like a sure goal, Manchester United needs him now."
