Coach Ruben Amorim openly shared his thoughts after Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League's second round.
After the 1-1 draw with Fulham, Man Utd's coach Ruben Amorim spoke at the press conference. The Portuguese strategist admitted that the Red Devils have yet to achieve the necessary stability.
He stated: “We could definitely have done better. The players gave their all, which I appreciate, but clearly, there are still many areas to improve. I think at certain stages of the match, especially at the beginning, we played quite impressively.”
According to Amorim, the turning point came immediately after scoring the opening goal. He emphasized: “Instead of continuing to maintain the tempo and control the game, we started focusing only on preserving the result. This caused the entire team to forget the basic principles of our style of play.”
The 39-year-old manager also pointed out the lack of sharpness in ball control and offensive pressure: “After going ahead, we should have kept possession more and pressed harder to force Fulham into mistakes. Instead, we played unwisely and gave them the chance to come back.”
The draw meant Manchester United missed the chance to secure all three points, but Amorim still believes these shortcomings will provide lessons for the road ahead.
