Manchester United's €42.5 million new signing Joshua Zirkze has been criticised for his poor shooting and poor movement after scoring the winner from the bench against Fulham in his first game. Xia Window was rumored to be a possible loan cleaner when he joined, which illustrates his performance. In the Netherlands, he suffered another blow and was left out of the Dutch squad for the match against Hungary in Amsterdam.
The 23-year-old was named in Ronald Koeman's 25-man squad alongside Manchester United team-mate De Ligt, however, neither was reused, with De Ligt named in the squad but on the bench for 90 minutes at the Cruyff Arena and not featured in the 4-0 thrash. Zilkedze is even worse, he doesn't even have a chance to guard the water cooler!
Zirkze has been left out of Koeman's chosen 23-man squad for the 23-man matchday against Hungary, with Justin Kluivert, the son of Bournemouth legend in the Premier League. UEFA has stipulated that the 23-man squad for the League of Nations League stage must be submitted the night before the match. Koeman was unnamed in his pre-match press conference on Friday, but in the end Zirkze and Kluivert Jr. were dropped.
The 23-year-old has been a fringe player in the Netherlands, taking part in Euro 2024 as an injured player, making just two substitute appearances, including a semi-final against England. He scored his first Netherlands international goal in a 5-2 win over Bosnia in the UEFA Nations League in September.
Zirkze played in two UEFA Nations League games in the Netherlands during last month's international break, starting the 1-1 draw with Hungary and coming off the bench in the second half against Germany three days later. The direct absence from the list this time clearly reflects Koeman's dissatisfaction with his form.
United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was in charge of the young Dutchman: "Joshua is more of a player who handles the ball and helps the team work. In the game at Crystal Palace, I think he was very good and showed one of his best performances. This is another very talented guy who is a good age and has a lot of potential for development. We have to take care of him and give him time because he will get better and be a very good player."
However, if Zirkze fails to give a qualified performance soon, the situation will become more and more difficult, and the British media and fans have already labeled him a "parallel import" (flop), and only by scoring goals can he take off this inglorious "hat". At the very least, he has to be more involved in the game.
According to Italian media, Amorim believes that Zirkze's level is not qualified and that he wants a player with more scoring ability, so he is considering sending the Dutch international as a bargaining chip. According to Torino Sport, Juventus are considering bringing in a striker and two defenders after successfully terminating Pogba, with Manchester United's Zirkze and Tottenham centre-back Rudou Dragusin and Arsenal defender Jacob Kiwior among their targets.
Juventus boss Thiago Motta was Zirkze's mentor at Bologna, and he is better at using the Dutch centre-forward with a particular style, and the slow-paced Serie A may indeed be better suited to Zirkze's performance than the fast-paced, fiercely contested Premier League.
Amorim's centre-forward targets will certainly include the number 9 Djekereish at his time at Sporting de Portugal, but Napoli's loan to Galatasaray's Osimhen could also be an option. Italy's Gerardo Fasano said that if Osimhen were brought in, Manchester United would use Zirkze as an "add-on" to reduce transfer spending. 'I heard that Manchester United were looking to bring in Osimhen and I was told that Amorim's Premier League club might include Zirkze in the talks. Zirkze is probably more suited to the rhythm of Serie A and he can help Lukaku at Napoli."
