Center-back Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh needed 14 stitches on his head after a strong collision in the group stage match between Hanoi Police FC and BG Pathum (Thailand) in the 2025/26 Southeast Asian Champions Cup.
At the 44th minute, with the score at 1-0 favoring CAHN, Mateus Fornazari of BG Pathum engaged in a fierce challenge right outside the visitors' penalty area.
In his effort to block, Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh was hit directly in the face by Fornazari’s high foot. The kick caused the number 68 center-back to immediately fall to the ground in pain.
Photos of Việt Anh receiving 14 stitches were shared by the player himself on social media.
The medical staff of CAHN quickly came onto the field to provide first aid and bandage the injury. After a few minutes of care, Việt Anh made an effort to return to play, receiving applause and support from the fans in the stands.
The referee issued a direct red card to Fornazari, leaving BG Pathum in a difficult position as they had to play with one less player just before halftime.
In a post-match interview, CAHN captain Quang Hải said: "Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh suffered a cut on his forehead after the collision and was taken to the hospital for examination. We hope Việt Anh does not have any serious problems and can prepare for CAHN’s next match."
This morning (August 21), Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh posted on social media stating that he is fine after receiving 14 stitches on his head. He will continue to monitor his health while returning with Hanoi Police FC to prepare for the second round of the 2025/26 V-League, facing Becamex TP.HCM away on August 24.
