Known as the "pitbull" in the dressing room due to his intensity, Marc Casado is now facing an unstable future at Camp Nou.
He is considered a potential lever for the Catalan club to return to the 1:1 principle, provided he chooses to leave in search of playing time before the 2026 World Cup begins next year.
The Barca-supporting newspaper Sport states that sporting director Deco has valued him at 30 million euros, amid interest from English clubs Wolverhampton and West Ham, while Betis also seeks the 21-year-old midfielder’s services because their playmaker Isco suffered a serious injury, alongside Johnny Cardoso’s departure.
Like several other cases, coach Hansi Flick is very clear about how he uses this midfielder; he is the last choice after Pedri, Frenkie De Jong, Gavi, Bernal, and Fermin Lopez, despite exceeding expectations last season.
His remarkable progress in the first half of last season came after the German coach’s priorities Bernal was injured and De Jong lost form, but Casado quickly lost his place similarly due to injury and the Dutch midfielder’s resurgence.
The 21-year-old midfielder, along with Andreas Christensen, did not play a single minute in the opening match against Mallorca. This was a predictable scenario, and Casado likely understood the difficulties he would face.
Once among the best young midfielders at Camp Nou last season, Casado now faces an uncertain future.
Currently, the midfielder has no intention to leave, although he finds himself in a very different situation compared to last season, starting slower than his teammates. Pedri and De Jong are irreplaceable players for Hansi Flick.
Furthermore, Gavi, another "favorite" of the German coach, whom he also expects to play as part of the pivot duo, has overcome a serious injury last season and regained his original form.
Marc Bernal is also in the final stretch and is one of the talents sure to get playing time once fully fit, as he has a distinct profile, able to perform both as a defensive midfielder and score goals.
Barcelona does not plan to part with Casado, but before the summer transfer window closes, if the midfielder from Sant Pere de Vilamajor feels he is not playing as expected and wants to leave, the club’s management will consider offers not less than 30 million euros.
Currently, those close to the player explain that the 21-year-old midfielder is not considering any departure options. A La Masia academy graduate, he is first and foremost a passionate supporter of the Catalan club, and his biggest dream is to succeed as a player for the team.
Flick has opened opportunities for him, after Xavi almost "imprisoned" him in a huge cage with the B team, so now Casado believes he can change his situation. However, if the Premier League and Betis increase their spending, anything could happen in the remaining 10 days of the transfer window.
