The Thai press offered various responses to CAHN's shocking loss against Pathum Utd in the Southeast Asian Club Championship.
CAHN had a forgettable start to the 2025/26 Southeast Asian Club Championship (Shopee Cup) season with an unbelievable loss to Pathum Utd. Even though they had a numerical advantage from the second half, the Vietnamese side allowed their opponents to come from behind in the closing minutes, leaving Thailand empty-handed.
The newspaper SiamSport ran a headline proudly praising the home team: "Despite being reduced to 10 men, BG Pathum staged a comeback to defeat Cong An Ha Noi 2-1, with Chanathip scoring a brace to kick off the Shopee Cup on a high note."
In the article, the outlet also praised Chanathip Songkrasin, the standout star for the Thai side. SiamSport wrote: "... In the second half, in the 58th minute, Chanathip Songkrasin broke free down the right wing, skillfully maneuvered before cutting inside and firing a decisive shot, leveling the score 1-1 for BG Pathum United.
The drama peaked in the 90+6th minute, when Chanathip once again shined with a long-range strike from near midfield, sending the ball straight into the net and sealing a dramatic 2-1 comeback for BG Pathum United over CAHN."
The publication Thairath also highlighted in its headline: "BG Pathum United, despite being down to 10 men, remarkably overturned the score to beat CAHN 2-1 in the opening match of the Shopee Cup 2025/26 group stage."
Meanwhile, the Thai Fanpage Main Stand praised Chanathip's spectacular goal: "Chanathip Songkrasin's long-range strike in the 90+7th minute helped BG Pathum come from behind to defeat CAHN 2-1 in the opening match of the Southeast Asian Club Championship Shopee Cup 2025/26."
Throughout over 90 minutes at True BG Stadium, CAHN created significantly more chances than their opponents. This was evident as the police team took 21 shots at Pathum Utd’s goal—three times more than the hosts. However, Mano Polking's squad could not match their rivals in terms of efficiency.
With just two on-target shots from Chanathip, Pathum Utd completed an emotional comeback with a 2-1 scoreline, leaving the Vietnamese representatives in disappointment.
In the next round, Pathum Utd will face Buriram Utd, while CAHN return home to host Cebu.
