Football results - Even though they played with more men after halftime, CAHN surprisingly fell to Pathum Utd in their first game of the Southeast Asian Club Championship.
Right after kickoff, the home team Pathum Utd pushed forward aggressively, applying heavy pressure and creating a dangerous chance in the 5th minute when Takaki Ose fired inside the box but sent the ball over the bar.
Refusing to be outdone, CAHN quickly responded. In the 11th minute, Quang Hai delivered a tricky cross, but Leo Artur couldn’t finish from close range. Just a minute later, Alan skillfully dribbled past several defenders, but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Slavisa.
After several missed opportunities, the turning point came in the 21st minute when Leo Artur made a clever through ball for Alan, who finished to give CAHN the lead.
Riding the momentum, the visitors kept up the attack. In the 24th minute, Leo Artur and Alan combined well, but Slavisa managed another save. In the 31st minute, Alan set up Le Van Do with a precise pass, but his shot in a one-on-one situation hit the opposing keeper.
The closing minutes of the first half were full of drama. In the 36th minute, Joel Lopez scored past Nguyen Filip, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Seven minutes later, Pathum Utd faced adversity as Matheus was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Bui Hoang Viet Anh.
At the start of the second half, coach Supachai Komsilp brought on their brightest star, Chanathip Songkrasin. The 31-year-old quickly made an impact.
In the 58th minute, following a swift counterattack, Chanathip showcased his dribbling skills before firing a decisive shot into the near corner. Although Nguyen Filip got a hand to it, he couldn’t keep it out and conceded the goal.
Not satisfied with a draw, CAHN’s stars surged forward in search of a second goal. Leo Artur had the most dangerous chances, both with his feet and headers, but the home defense remained focused.
Meanwhile, other key players from the police team also created several threatening attacks, but all efforts resulted only in opportunities, not goals.
Just when it seemed the Vietnamese side would settle for a draw away, they were dealt a bitter blow. In the final minute of stoppage time, after a poor clearance by Nguyen Filip, Chanathip received the ball from midfield and unleashed a shot straight into the visitors’ net, giving Pathum Utd the lead for the first time.
The few remaining moments weren’t enough for coach Mano Polking’s squad to find an equalizer. Ultimately, CAHN suffered a painful 1-2 defeat to Pathum Utd, despite playing with a man advantage for most of the match.
