CAHN is determined to break the "curse" that has plagued Vietnamese teams in Thailand.

CAHN FC has a chance to make history in their upcoming match against BG Pathum in the Southeast Asian Club Cup this evening.

Tonight at 19:00, Cong An Ha Noi (CAHN) will officially kick off their 2025/26 Southeast Asian Club Cup campaign as guests at BG Pathum United's Pathum Thani Stadium. This match is not only crucial for coach Mano Polking and his squad, but it also presents an opportunity for Vietnamese football to end its unfortunate streak when visiting BG Stadium in Thailand.

According to the records, Vietnamese teams have traveled to Pathum Thani three times, yet none have managed to secure a win, suffering two defeats and earning one draw. Specifically, Viettel lost 0-2 and 1-3 to BG Pathum at the 2021 AFC Champions League, while Dong A Thanh Hoa managed a 1-1 draw in January 2025 at last year’s Southeast Asian Club Cup. This puts considerable pressure on CAHN, but it also serves as motivation for the capital’s team to make history.

The challenge for CAHN is heightened by BG Pathum’s formidable squad, which includes several Thai national team stars like Chanathip Songkrasin, Sarach Yooyen, Ekanit Panya, and Patrik Gustavson. These names are familiar to Vietnamese fans, having faced Vietnam’s national team in various regional tournaments.

Nevertheless, CAHN is not to be underestimated. The Hanoi side arrives in Thailand with a strong lineup featuring national team players such as Filip Nguyen, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Quang Hai, Van Thanh, and the Brazilian striker duo Alan and Leo Artur, both in excellent form in the V.League. The creative abilities of these two foreign players could be the key for CAHN to spring a surprise.

A victory at Pathum Thani Stadium would not only give CAHN a positive start in the Southeast Asian Club Cup, but also mark the first time Vietnamese football breaks its unlucky run against Thai opponents.
