Ding had initially surged to a 2-0 lead against the defending champion, but that was the peak for the 38-year-old, who then lost six consecutive frames and was eliminated at the quarter-final stage.
Ding resisted until the 4-2 scoreline, repeatedly escaping trouble against the Englishman's tactical play, but ultimately ran out of both space and luck as Trump secured the seventh frame and then comfortably finished the match.
Trump will go up against Robertson in the last four after the Australian fought off a determined Pang Junxu 6-4victory in the same session.
Robertson, who dropped the first frame, then won five in a row to put himself close to a straightforward win.
However, Pang stubbornly battled back, taking the next three frames — at one point scoring 232 points without reply — to narrow it to 5-4 and create a tense finale.
In the end, Robertson kept his composure, dominating the tenth frame after Pang’s careless mistake allowed him to close out both the frame and the match.
The other two quarter-finals scheduled for the evening session will feature Shaun Murphy against Zhang Anda, and Mark Selby facing Barry Hawkins.
