Duong Quoc Hoang bids farewell to the 2025 US Open after a heartbreaking defeat against the Filipino player.

Duong Quoc Hoang’s (Hoang Sao) run at the 2025 US Open Pool Championship concluded in the round of 16 after a dramatic contest with Michael Baoanan from the Philippines.

Duong Quoc Hoang’s narrow loss means Vietnam no longer has a representative at the US Open.

Despite a rough start missing the 2-ball and falling behind 5-0, Hoang Sao demonstrated determination with an impressive comeback, taking the lead at 8-7. The match grew tense as both players delivered top-level shots.

Hoang Sao surged forward with a jump shot on the 3-ball to reach hill, but a missed 7-ball at the decisive moment allowed Baoanan to level at 9-9. In the hill–hill frame, a mistake exposing the 4-ball cost Hoang Sao dearly. Baoanan capitalized, cleared the table, and secured the 10-9 win.

Although eliminated in the round of 16, Duong Quoc Hoang received a $4,000 reward (about 100 million VND) as announced by the 2025 US Open for players reaching this stage. The invaluable experience gained will serve as a foundation for Vietnam’s top player to continue striving for new achievements.

According to the schedule, Duong Quoc Hoang will return home to participate in the Vietnam Open 2025, held in Ho Chi Minh City from September 15 to 21, 2025, with a total prize of $50,000. This presents an opportunity for Hoang Sao to make a strong comeback on home ground, supported by Vietnamese fans.
