Dương Quốc Hoàng keeps securing remarkable wins at the 2025 US Open billiards competition.
Dương Quốc Hoàng, nicknamed Hoàng Sao, continues his remarkable journey at the 2025 US Open Pool Championship by reaching the Last 16. In the Last 32 round, Vietnam’s number one player defeated Japanese competitor Naoyuki Oi. Showing outstanding form, Hoàng Sao beat Oi 10-4. Interestingly, Naoyuki was the one who had beaten Hoàng Sao in the opening round, pushing the Vietnamese player into the losers' bracket.
From the very first racks, Dương Quốc Hoàng electrified the crowd with an impressive 2–9 combo shot. Although the match was tightly contested at times, Hoàng quickly dominated the table, controlling both his shots and mental state. This win advances Hoàng Sao into the top 16, where he will face the winner of the match between Michael Baoanan and Jesus Atencio.

Earlier, Hoàng Sao overcame a series of tough challenges to progress deep into the tournament. He defeated Marc Bijsterbosch, then went on to beat US team captain Skyler Woodward 9-5. In both matches, Hoàng Sao displayed toughness, precise shot execution, and decisive playmaking; despite occasional mistakes, his strong mentality kept him steady.
The 2025 US Open Pool Championship is a prestigious nine-ball event, marking its 48th edition and standing as one of the world’s top cue sports competitions. This year, the total prize pool has risen sharply to $500,000 (equivalent to 13 billion VND), with the champion awarded $100,000 and important ranking points on the World Nineball Tour (WNT). The event gathers 256 players from around the globe, including both professionals and amateurs, with a double-elimination format until the last 16 and single elimination from the Last 64.
Vietnam’s billiards team has 10 participants, with Dương Quốc Hoàng as their leading hope.
