LCK Play-In + Playoffs
After the LCK group stage, the play-in tournament will be next week. Due to the format, HLE and T1 are in a very sensitive position. If they win all of them in the second round of the play-in tournament and advance to the playoffs, then they will advance as four or five places, and they will meet in the first round of the playoffs, and they will be single-handed Bo5, and if they lose, they will go home and take a break. And if one of the two teams loses in the second round, they will qualify for the playoffs by finishing sixth in the third round of the lower bracket. Then the first round to play is KT, which is a relatively easy opponent to beat.
The global audience that eats melons naturally wants to watch HLE vs. T1 life and death, and see who is stronger between Zeus, who has left the team, and Smash, who has just become a new favorite. You can also see how Smash Ferry will perform against another champion, Viper, after beating the old champion Ruler. Of course, there are also people who want to see if there will be an Oscar night in the LCK.
There's no reason for T1 to strike first
T1 and HLE play-in Bo3 were on the same day, but T1 started first. As a five-star club, with veteran Faker at the helm and recently a new striker Smash, T1 doesn't seem to have any reason to play Oscar. Moreover, for a team like T1 that has won the World Finals in a row, the team must be the more confident side in Bo5, and after winning and qualifying, this pressure can be thrown directly to HLE. If you want to fight, come to the playoffs Bo5 to fight to the death, if you're afraid, you can go to Oscar to play KT.
Not so smooth HLE
HLE's new lineup performed mediocre, and I thought that Zeus could become stronger by replacing Doran, but it didn't seem to have changed much. In the group stage, there was a "bullying of the soft and afraid of the hard", facing DK and GenG, they all lost, and the remaining 3 weak ones all won. If such an HLE goes to play T1, the win rate is probably very low. Because in the LCK league, Doran has a very high win rate against Zeus in recent years. It's true that Doran is inferior to Zeus at Worlds, but here is LCK. The other 4 positions are also T1 performance, especially the newcomer Smash, who took Viper after abusing Ruler, and the results in the early stage of his debut were too fruitful. This is a newcomer who is taking the championship ADC as a backdrop!
And T1 is the first to win first, there is no pressure, the choice is left to HLE, if you want to fight hard, you win T1, and if you admit it, then Oscar will go to KT. It's just that not all of the teams in this play-in tournament are salted fish that can be slaughtered, and going to the lower bracket is risky. These dramas make the LCK's playoffs too interesting both on and off the court.
DK selects
DK qualified as the team that finished first in the group 5-0 and has an option in the second round of the playoffs. They can choose one of the winners of the first round as their opponent and will definitely avoid T1 first. So if T1 makes the cut, then it's very likely that you'll see T1 play HLE first and then GenG in the playoffs. If T1 and HLE win against HLE, then the same will be true for HLE, and HLE will be seen playing T1 and GenG in a row. DK will inevitably only choose the winner of the weaker KT group as an opponent. Therefore, DK is very likely to return to the stage of the LCK finals after many years.
A season full of highlights
LCK's top four matchups this year are really exciting, T1 has Smash, HLE has Zeus, DK also has 17-year-old newcomer and veteran Beryl, and the past champion GenG is relatively weak in the top four. But no one can predict what the final outcome of the Bo5 of the global BP will be, especially what the fifth game BP of the LCK will look like, which is really worth looking forward to.
