Following T1’s triple crown victory at the S15 World Championship, bottom laner Gumayusi took home the FMVP award, yet surprisingly, the team’s initial announcement was about him leaving! His performance and teamwork were inconsistent this year, and he was previously relegated to the bench. Despite winning the title together, parting ways was unavoidable! For Gumayusi’s fans, this was mostly expected; although they hoped he would stay, his departure is understandable. He also responded on his personal social media, saying everyone must have been shocked, but he promised to meet fans again in a new place!

This might be a long-standing tradition for T1: last year FMVP Zeus left, and now FMVP Gumayusi is departing. It’s said that last year Zeus took a pay cut to stay with the team, and this year Gumayusi endured great pressure, hoping for a big contract, but negotiations ultimately fell through. There are several rumors about Gumayusi’s next destination, but the most likely is joining HLE to reunite with old teammate Zeus. HLE still has salary space, and with Viper likely leaving—possibly moving to the LPL where he’s familiar with the environment and speaks Chinese well—this move makes sense. On T1’s side, it’s probable that JDG’s bottom laner Peyz will join. Rumors say Peyz has already started coordinating with Keria, though nothing is official yet!

Meanwhile, after the championship, Doran mentioned during a livestream that he still has more ambitions but didn’t disclose his future plans. Shortly after T1 announced Gumayusi’s departure, they also confirmed Doran’s contract renewal, meaning Doran will stay with the team for another year! Although his performance has been somewhat unstable, there are few options for top laners in the LCK currently. Doran’s synergy with the team has been improving. If the top, mid, jungle, and support roles remain unchanged and Peyz joins, will T1 be stronger or weaker next year?
