LPL: Cancel the spring and summer competitions and change them to three stages, 2025 LPL new format interpretation instructions

On December 14, Beijing time, the League of Legends event announced the 2025 LPL competition system.

First of all, the previous Spring and Summer Races will be cancelled and replaced with the "Next Door Vasai" stage. The year is divided into three stages, and there is an overall champion of the year!

In fact, a similar competition system has been implemented in the LEC region for a long time, but the LEC is still divided into spring, summer and winter races, and this time the LPL will be changed to three stages and an annual championship. (In fact, there are also the first stage champions, the second stage champions, but the third stage champion becomes the annual champion)

Because of the addition of a new World, there will be three stages in the LPL throughout the year, and each stage will compete for a spot in the three Worlds.

【Stage 1】

The first stage is from January to March

Format: 16 teams will be drawn and divided into four groups according to the 2024 rankings. The group stage is a single round-robin round robin of BO5, and the top two in each group advance to the knockout round. The knockout rounds are a double-elimination format, with the second group starting from the lower bracket with only one life, and the first group starting from the upper bracket.

The game uses a new global BP (that is, heroes selected on both sides can no longer be used) plus solo side selection.

There are two kinds of solo side selection, one is the regular season BO5, the first game is selected through the solo match, and the subsequent side selection is for the loser. The other is the knockout round BO5, the first game is played by flipping a coin, and the fifth game is played through solo side selection, so as to eliminate the advantage of the first side in the first game.

The winner of Stage 1 will be able to participate in the new Worlds!

【Stage 2】

The second stage is from March to June

Format: Like this summer, the regular season is divided into group stage, in-group competition, and Cavaliers' Road.

The bottom two teams in the second stage will be eliminated directly, ending the LPL competition in 2025.

The winners and runners-up of Stage 2 will participate in MSI.

【Stage 3】

The third stage is from July to September

Format: The group stage grouping has been cancelled and the group stage will start directly from the group stage.

The third stage will compete for the LPL annual championship!

【Summary】

The weak team in the first stage will be "on vacation" until March after playing three BO5s.

The weaker teams in the second stage will be directly "on holiday throughout the year" if they are ranked in the bottom two places in the Nirvana group of the group!

The third stage is directly "purified".

This format will allow the strong teams to keep playing again, while the weak teams will soon be able to "end the battle in 2025".
