Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.
Recently, Xiaodi saw a topic in the camp called "Which hero counts as basic for marksmen". Coincidentally, Xiaodi's main role in the game is the development lane, and I have good insights into most marksmen. So I have some say on this topic. In this episode, I'll share my thoughts~

Before we start, we need to clarify that marksmen are actually divided into two types: stationary shooters and mobile shooters. Although both are marksmen, they are quite different, so we need to discuss them separately.
Hou Yi basically embodies all the characteristics of stationary shooters. Once you master Hou Yi, you can easily apply the same principles to others.
First, Hou Yi has almost no self-preservation ability; he can only rely on Flash. Although his ultimate has crowd control, unfortunately its close-range hit time is too short, so it's practically nonexistent. This extreme fragility means you must rely on positioning and game sense to survive. Additionally, Hou Yi's attack range is moderate among marksmen, so you need to constantly consider your output position—whether to continue dealing damage or retreat decisively. This sensitivity is exactly what all stationary shooters require. Once muscle memory is formed, you can easily handle any stationary shooter.

Second, Hou Yi's ultimate is a long-range crowd control effect that heavily tests skill accuracy. To land it, you must predict the enemy's movement and rely on teammates' vision. Among Honor of Kings marksmen, many heroes require high skill accuracy, such as Yu Ji's first skill, Baili Shouyue's second skill, and Di Renjie's ultimate. Obviously, if you can master such a long-range skill, other short-range skills become much easier.

As everyone knows, mobile shooters are actually quite difficult. Marco Polo happens to be a medium-difficulty mobile shooter, making him suitable as a basic practice hero.
On one hand, Marco Polo has two dashes, giving him high mobility. However, his short-term damage output is insufficient, especially in the early to mid game. He requires frequent poking and kiting, using his first skill to stack marks. This is exactly the characteristic of all mobile shooters—most need to kite for damage: if the enemy retreats, chase and poke; if the enemy attacks, immediately disengage and give no chance.

On the other hand, Marco Polo is a hero who heavily depends on the timing of his ultimate. After all, his first skill is mainly for poking; real damage and kills come from his ultimate. However, if he gets crowd-controlled even a little, his ultimate gets interrupted, leaving him surrounded by enemies. This tests the player's timing. Once mastered, heroes like Sun Quan's ultimate, Ai Lin's ultimate, and Ge Ya's ultimate are similar, and you won't feel unfamiliar playing them.

Additionally, the current mainstream build for marksmen revolves around on-hit items like Demon's Bane, Shadow Blade, and Lightning Dagger, which greatly boost early game development. The typical representative hero for on-hit builds has always been Marco Polo. So once you learn Marco Polo, you'll be familiar with the feel, strength, and damage control of on-hit builds, making it easier to pick up other heroes.
That's Xiaodi's opinion. So, what hero do you think is basic for mastering marksmen? Feel free to leave your thoughts~
That's all for today. If you found it good, feel free to give a like for support. If you have anything to say, ask, or want to see, leave a comment—I'll read them all~
