In Honor of Kings, quite a few players enjoy duo queuing, because having a teammate who coordinates well can significantly boost your ranking efficiency. Moreover, duo queuing solves the problem after reaching certain ranks where the system forces you to select two roles before entering a match. If both players choose the same two roles but swap their order, putting their preferred role first, then as long as you enter the game, you'll always get your most desired role. However, not all five roles are equally suitable for duo queuing. This time, I'll share my thoughts on this.

The jungle-support duo is extremely effective because the jungler serves as the game's pace setter. Whether you can gain an early advantage largely depends on the jungler's performance. If the support helps the jungler in the early game, it greatly accelerates the jungler's development, allowing them to stay one step ahead of the opponent in every move—helping with vision, defending the jungle, and ganking. By the mid game, the jungler is often leading the entire map, and then they can feed resources back to teammates. Once the overall economy is boosted, it's very hard for the enemy to turn the tables. The core of the jungle-support duo lies in using the support's tempo to assist the jungler's momentum, snowballing early advantages and often ending the game by mid game.

The mid-support duo is also quite good, with a principle similar to the jungle-support one. The mid lane itself is a pace setter; if the jungler fails to initiate tempo, the responsibility often falls on the mid laner. However, a major issue for the mid laner is the constant need to clear mid wave while also being cautious of ambushes when rotating. With a support to scout vision and provide crowd control, the mage's safety and gank success rate both improve significantly. The old strategy of the support helping clear mid wave early then rotating to the bottom lane actually follows this logic.

Some players might find the mid-jungle duo unexpected. This combination mainly enhances roaming capabilities. After all, the jungler's job, besides farming camps, is to gank other lanes, while the mid laner naturally has path advantages to both the gold lane and the clash lane. Combining these two greatly increases gank success rates. If only the jungler goes for a gank, sometimes damage or crowd control may be insufficient, but the mid laner can compensate in both areas. Unlike the previous two duos, which mainly rely on one role to carry, the mid-jungle duo shares the workload more evenly.

The marksman-support duo is a classic choice and often the entry-level option for duo queuers. The core idea is simple: nurture the marksman. In the late game, once a hyper-carry marksman like Luban No.7, Hou Yi, or Garo gets their core items, they can deal massive damage. The support protects the marksman early for farming and later for survival, making it nearly unstoppable. However, compared to the previous three duos, the marksman-support duo has a slower pace. If the opponent applies heavy pressure early and the marksman can't scale, the game becomes much harder.

As for other combinations, such as the jungle-marksman duo, it seems to cover the team's entire damage output, but the two roles have highly overlapping resource demands, making them not very compatible. The mid-marksman duo leaves both players squishy; an assassin can double-kill them easily, and their teamfight positioning becomes awkward. The clash lane is essentially a solo lane in the early game, making it unsuitable for duo queuing overall. So, what do you think is the best duo queue role combination?
