Chichong invades the development lane. Yu Ji's second skill provides physical immunity, so why is Ao Yin the preferred choice?

Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.

The hero Chichong is now frequently seen in the development lane. In fact, he was originally designed as a warrior-assassin. Coming to the development lane feels like a "dimensional reduction" attack—most marksmen struggle to lane against him! After all, Chichong has a warrior's durability plus high sustain, and the burst damage during the few seconds after using his ultimate is insane. So which marksmen can actually lane against Chichong? Yu Ji, with her second skill's physical immunity, is one. But the one widely considered the easiest counter is Ao Yin—why is that?

Why does Ao Yin counter Chichong?

If Yu Ji relies on her second skill's physical immunity to tank Chichong's damage, then Ao Yin focuses on making Chichong's power go to waste. As everyone knows, Chichong is a melee-range hero who deals damage mainly through the extremely high attack speed during the few seconds after ulting. Even marksmen with dashes still take quite a few of Chichong's skills. Ao Yin's third skill has a decent knockback effect. The wind dragon soul combined with enhanced basic attacks can deliver two effective knockbacks, enough to push away an ulting Chichong rushing in, forcibly interrupting her skill output.

The fourth skill is even more useful—it's Ao Yin's lifesaver against all heroes. It makes him rise into the air and become untargetable for up to 6 seconds. So even if the third skill fails to knock back Chichong properly and he gets stuck, he can use his ultimate to avoid damage. Once Chichong's skills go on cooldown, he can land and counterattack, putting the initiative back in Ao Yin's hands. It's like a double insurance. It can be said that Ao Yin is currently the only marksman who can suppress Chichong mechanically.

What if you don't have Ao Yin or Yu Ji?

Of course, you might encounter a situation where both Yu Ji and Ao Yin are banned and you can't pick either, while the enemy picks Chichong. What should you do? The suggestion is to choose a marksman with a dash, and then pair it with the new item this season, the Shadow Armlet. Its active effect lets the hero briefly enter stealth mode. This item is considered a marksman's survival tool because, while stealthed, some targeted skills lose their lock. If you enter stealth when Chichong uses his ultimate, his damage will almost be completely negated. Once Chichong's ultimate goes on cooldown, that's the perfect time to counterattack.

Of course, this item is not a panacea. If you're using a stationary marksman, it may not work very well, because you still need some mobility to help create a bit of distance. Also, building this item early in the game can slow down your pace. It's recommended to purchase it in the mid-to-late game depending on the situation. Moreover, this item has a long cooldown. If you use a skill or basic attack while stealthed, you will immediately become visible. So you need to master the timing of entering stealth, and make full use of that window to choose the right moment to break stealth and counterattack.
