Have you all seen the King’s Co-Creation Night? Besides the song and dance performances, this event also revealed some new game-related content, such as the cultural-themed heroes coming in 2026. There are three heroes: Six-Eared, Dayu, and Wang Wei. The most attention-grabbing is probably Six-Eared, because the preview for this hero includes the already existing hero Sun Wukong. So why would the game release another monkey-based hero when Sun Wukong is already in the game? Let me share my thoughts on this.

Current Challenges for Sun Wukong

Although Sun Wukong remains popular, he faces some challenges. First, in terms of strength, he is currently only mid-tier. He performs slightly better in low-rank matches but somewhat weaker in mid-to-high ranks, which is due to his own mechanics. This means his floor is decent but his ceiling isn’t very high. It’s worth noting that Sun Wukong hasn’t appeared in the KPL tournament for a long time. Secondly, regarding skins, Sun Wukong has a fair number of skins, but the quality tiers mostly lack legendary, unparalleled limited, and premium unparalleled skins. While the reason for no new releases is unclear, it’s obvious that there’s little room left for skins below legendary quality. This is actually the most important point: the developers prefer to have substitute heroes, like Yao and Li Bai, Diao Chan and Gongsun Li, and this time they happen to have a ready prototype.

Six-Eared Actually Has Considerable Popularity

Six-Eared is not unfamiliar to many. The story of the real and fake Monkey King is widely known, and in the tale, Six-Eared looks exactly like Sun Wukong, with identical abilities and weapons, making a strong impression on people. In the game, Sun Wukong has always been highly popular, often dominating various voting events far ahead of other heroes. Introducing Six-Eared, who has a deep connection with Sun Wukong and shares the monkey image, as long as his strength is balanced and closely linked to Sun Wukong, could easily attract players' attention and affection.

Further Enriching the Background Lore

In the latest preview, Six-Eared has a line: “How dare you trample the order of Mount Ling,” and there’s an ending Easter egg with Jin Chan’s line: “Do I have to lead two monkeys alone?” Although the information seems sparse, it reveals the developers’ ambitions. Six-Eared’s line shows he is a defender of Mount Ling’s order, naturally introducing more lore about Mount Ling. Jin Chan’s line clearly references the Journey to the West story. These elements were not deeply explored in their original backgrounds, so Six-Eared’s addition will enrich this lore significantly.

Overall, I’m really looking forward to Six-Eared’s arrival. I hope he can borrow Sun Wukong’s skills well but also go beyond the current skill set. I wonder what surprises the developers will bring?
