Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Friday that Hazlewood had reported discomfort in his Achilles tendon, which has delayed his rehabilitation process.
"It is a minor issue, and he is expected to start running and bowling again next week," CA stated in their announcement.
Hazlewood was absent from the first test against England in Perth and the ongoing match in Brisbane but had resumed bowling in the nets before this new setback.
Regular captain Pat Cummins also missed the first two tests due to a back injury but has a stronger chance of playing in the Adelaide match beginning December 17.
Australia selected a fairly inexperienced pace attack at the Gabba, including Scott Boland, Brendan Doggett, and Michael Neser alongside veteran 35-year-old Mitchell Starc.
Defending champions Australia lead the five-match Ashes series 1-0.
