2K26 officially revealed the Top 10 three-point ability ratings for the new season, with Curry leading at 99 points, Durant in second at 91 points, and Thompson third at 89 pointsfollowed by Bane at 88 points, Isaiah Joe at 88 points, LaVine at 87 points, Grayson Allen at 87 points, Kennard at 87 points, Hozier at 87 points, and Edwards at 87 points.
The top three players feel familiar, as they previously teamed up from 2016 to 2019 to create the legendary Warriors, making three trips to the Finals and winning two championships, showcasing their dominance. Unfortunately, times have changed, and now they continue to shine in their respective teams.
Among the three, Curry is the oldest at nearly 38, Durant is the second oldest at nearly 37, while Thompson is the youngest at 35 but also showing the fastest decline, no longer an All-Star player, earning less than $20 million a year, and gradually losing discussion heat.
Last summer, Thompson chose to leave the Warriors, taking his talent to Dallas with a three-year, $50 million deal. In the last regular season, he played 72 games, all as a starter, averaging 27.3 minutes, contributing 14 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2 assists, with a shooting percentage of 41.2%, and hitting three three-pointers per game at a 39.1% accuracy rate, though his performance was inconsistent, often scoring in single digits in games.
However, in this year's play-in tournament, Thompson excelled, averaging 20.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists over two games, with shooting percentages of 57.7% and 54.5%, helping the Mavericks win their first game 120-106 against the Kings, but losing the second game 106-129 to the Grizzlies, thus missing the playoffs.
Although they failed to make the playoffs last season for various reasons, the Mavericks enter the new season with very strong immediate combat power. With the addition of the top draft pick Flagg and former All-Star point guard Russell, if Irving can recover in time from his torn left ACL and regain his form, they will truly be championship contenders.
We can actually look forward to Thompson's performance in the new season, as it will be his second season with the Mavericks, allowing him to adapt better to the team system, and he will have more support to draw attention, making it very likely for him to improve compared to the 2024-2025 season.
So the question arises: who among Curry, Durant, and Thompson will be the first to win a championship?
