4 years and $229 million! Reports suggest Trae Young is unhappy with the Hawks! Another star might enter the trade market.

Reporter Spears noted: Trae Young has been eligible since July 7 to sign a four-year maximum extension worth up to $229 million, but the Hawks seem reluctant to engage in talks, which has made him feel unhappy and let down.

Trae Young has two years left on his current contract, with a salary of about $46 million for the 2025-26 season and a player option worth $48.97 million for the 2026-27 season, meaning he could become a full free agent as early as the summer of 2026.

Last season, Trae Young averaged an impressive 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 11.6 assists, 4.7 turnovers, and 1.2 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 41.1%, 34%, and 87.5%. Although he led the league in assists and turnovers, his standout performance couldn't carry the team into the playoffs, which might explain the Hawks' reluctance to agree to a maximum extension with him.

Of course, even if the Hawks do not wish to continue their partnership with Trae Young, they certainly do not want to lose him for nothing. They might look to trade him for significant rebuilding assets before the summer of 2026, making next year's trade deadline a particularly crucial period to watch.

The American betting site Bovada has listed odds for Trae Young's next team, with the Magic, Nets, and Kings leading the pack, followed closely by the Suns, Rockets, and Heat.

However, Trae Young himself is most eager to bring his talent to Boston. Recently, he liked a photo on social media of himself in a Celtics jersey, which sparked considerable discussion.

The Celtics are preparing to forgo the 2025-26 season and are actively clearing salary space this summer. So far, they have reduced their total salary plus luxury tax from $540 million to $239 million, clearly aiming for significant moves next summer to form a new Big Three with Jaylen Brown and a recovering Jayson Tatum from his Achilles injury.

However, the Celtics may not necessarily pursue Trae Young; they are more likely seeking a star big man to join the team.

So, what does the future hold for four-time All-Star guard Trae Young?
