Is another star on the move? Young is disappointed that the Hawks haven't offered a contract extension: he is eligible for a four-year, $229 million deal.

On August 6, Beijing time, renowned reporter Marc Spears revealed that Atlanta Hawks' star point guard Trae Young is "disappointed that he has yet to receive a contract extension offer," as stated by this ESPN insider during Tuesday's NBA Today program.

"What I'm hearing right now—it's evident from Trae's tweet and I felt it when I saw him during the Finals—is that he feels disappointed about the delay in the extension offer," he said. "So, it wouldn't be surprising if he opts to play out his current contract and see what happens next summer."

Young's current contract runs through the 2025-26 season, with a player option for the 2026-27 season. However, he is now eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million extension.

In early July, Young posted an "hourglass" emoji on social media, which may hint that he is still waiting for the extension situation to resolve. He has also recently publicly supported the Cowboys' Micah Parsons, who is currently in a contract stalemate with team owner Jerry Jones.

"That's why it's important to make offers to players early; when someone is willing to accept a lower offer to stay where they want to play forever, it should be done... prices will only keep going up!" Young said in response to Parsons' trade request. "Go get what you deserve, brother!"

This has been an unmistakable hint to the Hawks' management.

Last season, this 26-year-old player averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and a league-leading 11.6 assists—clearly, he has every reason to receive a new contract, and his statements indicate he is willing to stay with the Hawks. However, according to a report by notable reporter Shams in July, executives from other teams are "closely monitoring" this guard's future in Atlanta, as anything is possible in contract negotiations.

So for now, it seems this waiting game will continue. The Hawks are likely inclined to take their time and may choose to address this matter next year.
